Oil Spill off Mumbai Coast threatens Sea Life





Breaking News! It seems like the sea life is under the threat as the oil spill that was due to a collision between two cargo ships off the Mumbai coast on Saturday. The anti-pollution operations are being carried out by the Navy and Coast Guard to control the oil spill.

The operations will be expedited after a high level meeting by the officials of the Maharashtra government Environment Department, National Disaster Response Force, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Shipping department, Mumbai Port Trust and other concerned agencies.

As five ships have been deployed by the Coast Guard to make the situation under control, the fishermen are prevented from fishing during this season. According to the General secretary of the National Fish Forum, Rambhu Patil, the sea life including fish and other organisms are endangered due to the oil spill, if the sea water will be not be cleaned up soon.

The Monsoon season is the time for sea creatures for breeding and the tides look strongest during this time, he further added. Even though the initiatives major are geared up effectively, but it should save the deep-water marine life soon, Patil said.
